The layoff shot is a very effective skill to pull during the game. It can fool the defenders and freeze the goalkeeper just enough for your teammate to run onto the ball, shoot, and score. When doing a layoff pass, it is important to have perfect communication, or else you’ll lose the ball.
Supplies:
- A ball
- 2 players
Set up:
- One player stands far apart from the other player.
- One player will stand with their back to the goal on the penalty arc and the other player will stand in between the center circle and the other player.
Instructions:
- The player will dribble the ball at the other player until they are a decent distance to provide a quick pass.
- When the player receives the pass, they will pass out to the left or right of them and point where they are going to pass the ball before they actually do.
- The player receiving the lay-off pass will take a touch and shoot the ball quickly.
Tips:
- Communicate so you know where the player is going to lay off the ball
- You don’t have to communicate verbally, instead, you can point so the defense does not know exactly what you are doing
