Turning in soccer is one of the best skills to master. When turning, you are able to quickly change direction while fooling your opponent. Some turns are easy, others are hard, but when used in the right circumstance, any turn can be very effective. Pull Back Turn
Pull the ball back behind you to open up the field!
The pull back turn is easily one of the most simple turns in the game. Simple as it is though, this turn can be really effective in game.
Instructions:
- Pull the ball back with one foot
- Spin while pulling the ball towards you
Stepover Turn
Stepover the ball to fake going one way and twist your body to turn the other way!
The stepover turn is another easy turn. It fakes the defender out, as they think you are going forward, but in reality, you are going backward.
Instructions:
- Touch the ball to one foot.
- Stepover the ball in the opposite direction you want to go
- Use the outside of the foot that you used to perform the stepover to turn
Outside Foot Turn
Use the outside of your foot to change direction!
The outside of the foot turn is perfect when in little space. Only small touches are needed and the turn can be performed very quickly.
Instructions:
- Continuously touch the ball with the outside of your foot to turn around
Behind the Foot Turn
Tap the ball behind your leg to create space to turn around!
The behind the foot turn is a great turn. You position your body so that the defender has to go through you to get the ball. It also allows you to keep a little bit of momentum as you tap the ball behind your leg.
Instructions:
- Run towards the ball at an angle.
- Lengthen your stride with the foot that does not have the ball.
- With the foot that has the ball, tap it behind your leg.
- Turn and accelerate into space.
Fake Touch Turn
Fake touching the ball back towards where it came from then move the opposite way!
This turn seems simple, but you must be able to judge the speed of the ball perfectly. Faking one way and moving the other can slow your momentum so it is important to stay aware of your surroundings. Keep the ball close and this turn will work like a charm!
Instructions:
- Run at the ball as it is rolling towards you.
- With the foot closest to the ball, fake like you are touching it back to where it came from.
- Let the ball roll across your body.
- With your other foot, grab the ball and run into space.
