The quick-paced short, short, long is a key drill to practice. It helps you with multiple different ways to pass the ball. Each player needs to perform a short, quick pass, as well as, long pass. Give and go passes are more common in the game of soccer, however, a player must always be aware of a long pass option.
Supplies:
- Three players
- 1 ball
Set up:
- All three players will stand in a line.
- Two players will be at one end and one will be at the other.
Instructions:
- The side with 2 players starts with the ball. One player will pass to the other.
- Then, the player who received the ball will pass the ball back to the player who originally passed it.
- The player will then take one touch to set up the ball, and one-touch to kick the ball to the player farther away.
- The player who passed the ball will chase the ball.
- When the person who was farther away receives the ball, they will do the passing sequence above and chase the ball after they pass it longer.
Tips:
- Be detailed in your passes, don’t let the ball bounce away.
- Try to switch to one-touch only, as it can help your touches and quick passing.
- Try to switch up the combination play. For example, instead of receiving and getting it back, dribble at the player running at you and skill around them.
