Pass and shoot is an easy drill to practice and can be modified to practice many shooting techniques. Although shooting is only a small part of the game, it is also important to practice. This drill will improve accuracy and power if you are dedicated enough to do it often. Also, passing accuracy will also be improved because you will have to time your pass perfectly so your teammate will have a better chance of having a good shot.
Supplies:
- 1 ball (having more is better but not mandatory)
- 2 cones
- Two people
Set up:
- Set up two cones close to the goal, the distance between the cones should be as far or close you want to pass the ball.
- The player who wants to shoot will stand at one cone
- The player not shooting will stand at the other and start with the ball
Instructions:
- The player with the ball will pass it to the other player.
- They can choose to pass the ball in the air or ground, it doesn’t matter which one.
- Then, once the ball arrives at the player who is shooting, they can either shoot the ball the first time or take one or two touches to settle the ball.
- Repeat this about 10 times then switch roles.
Tips:
- Switch up the passes. Don’t only pass the ball on the ground or in the air. You can also alternate between fast and slower passes.
- Try to strike the ball with the laces of your shoes. This generates the most power when kicking the ball. However, when you are trying to shoot the ball first time, the inside of your foot may be more useful because you can place your shot more accurately.
- Don’t be afraid of receiving the ball using your chest, or even head. When you try to receive the ball with your feet, most of the time you tilt your body away from the ball. This can influence you to miss the ball or just have a bad first touch. When you use your body, especially for receiving balls in the air, you have a greater chance at success.
