A fun and easy way to develop a variety of skills. This drill will help improve a player’s defensive skill, decision making speed, crossing, and transition. One of the best drills because it practices many different aspects of the game and is very simple to set up and do. Practice it often so that you and your team can perfect all of the skills that this drill helps you with.
Supplies:
- Cones
- 12 players
- 3 balls
Set up:
- Set up a border using the touchlines and the cones, separate the rectangle into 3 equal sections.
- Split up the players into 3 equal teams, each team will go into each grid or section.
- One end will start with the ball.
Instructions:
- The team who starts with the ball will pass it around until they get 5 passes. During this time, the team in the middle will send two players to defend.
- Once their defenders win the ball, the team in the middle will switch with the team who lost the ball.
- But, if the team with the ball manages 5 passes, one player will kick it to the other team on the other end. When this happens, the teams stay where they are and the team in the middle defends again while the teams on the outside continue to play possession.
- The drill will continue in this manner until you stop.
Tips:
- Transition from offense to defense and defense to offense quickly to gain an advantage against the other teams
- Have quick passes and know what to do before you receive the ball
