Sacrifice is a top drill to practice. It touches on passing, defending, making runs, shooting, and most of all, blocking the ball. When practicing sacrifice, make sure you are making the correct runs and getting open for your team. Remember, drills like this are fun, but make sure you focus fully on the drill instead of messing around.
Supplies:
- 2 goals
- 1 ball
- 8 or more players
Set up:
- Set up the two goals, if you don’t have goals, you can use cones.
- Split the playing field into two equal parts. Each team will have 3-4 players.
- 2-3 will stay back and “defend” while 1 player will go to the other team’s side and play “offense.”
- The same will go with the other team. If you have enough players, then 1 player can go into the goal on each side.
Instructions:
- One team will start with the ball.
- They will pass the ball around until they have a good look at the goal, when this happens, they will shoot.
- Remember, the 1 player from the other team will try to steal the ball, and your target player is available to pass to.
- Once a shoot is taken, and the other team has the ball, then play will continue in this way.
Tips:
- Work efficiently and contain on defense until the players make a mistake and you can take the ball
- Transition quickly
